The purpose for this official daily journal, associated with the works of Christopher as he oversees the Marvelous Work and a Wonder®, is symbolically represented in the above picture.
The straight and narrow path metaphorically represents the real truth (things as they really are, as they really happened in the past, and as they will really happen in the future). The path’s outlay represents the course Christopher has taken in producing this work. The trees that line this path represent the social institutions established upon this earth that affect the amount of light (real understanding) that illuminates this path.
These institutions (the trees) are the philosophies of humankind that have developed over many years of human existence. They are the various religions and sciences that establish what each person accepts as his or her personal reality. The fallen leaves from these trees represent the consequences and effects of human nature and the free will associated with these many divergent realities.
Christopher took up a rake and began to gather these leaves into piles that aligned with the straight and narrow path. In other words, his work utilizes the philosophies of humankind already produced in the human mind in an attempt to align them with a reality that more clearly reflects real truth. The “piles of leaves” are a series of published books and many public writings left behind him for one to read with a sincere heart and real intent. The books help one question her or his own reality and reconsider one’s own truths.
As shown in the picture, he has put down the rake alongside the path and no longer “rakes the leaves” into piles. He continues on in the shadow of the great trees. To his left, there are a few sheep grazing in a meadow illuminated by the full sun. The fence that follows the path keeps the sheep in the lush meadow of nutritious grass away from the trees that block the sunlight. It is not Christopher’s job or concern to care for the sheep. He walks on his chosen path that will eventually lead him out from among the trees forever.
He walks this path alone. None other fully understands his true intent or the desires of his heart.
This journal was created to allow the world to see inside the heart and mind of the man responsible for the Marvelous Work and a Wonder®. It will include his daily thoughts and present an archived history of his life and the events that transpired as he began his work and as he continues it to the end of his life. It will stand as an addendum to an autobiography that will become a published part of his work. In conjunction with this daily journal, Christopher’s autobiography will outline his life and give more important details, countering the misinformation published by his enemies and critics. Although any has a right to publish their opinion, none has a right to claim to be an authority on Christopher’s past, present, or future. No one but Christopher knows his heart. He can justly plagiarize the words of another:
“You don’t know me; you never knew my heart. No man knows my history.”
—Joseph Smith, Jr. (1844)
This journal will help those who desire to know his heart, to also know his history.
