Chasing a yearning. Finding a True Messenger who can lead you in the way of life and salvation.

Christopher recently received the following email from a man in California:

“I am at a total loss.  I want to say something profound, but I cannot find the words, so I will just have to speak plainly.  I have been chasing a yearning, trying to resolve an inner sense of un-fulfillment, my entire life.  For years I have known that there was something, someone, out there that I needed to wait for.  That I would be contacted at the right time to fulfill my true purpose.  But that contact has never come and I have been left feeling empty.  I’ve chased my dreams, a career, an education, to no avail.  Since I stumbled across the sealed portion last month, I cannot get your message out of my mind.  It is like turning on a light in a dark and mysterious room, only to see a loved one there and feel instantly at peace.  I have been reading and studying your message (beyond the sealed portion).

“Here’s the deal.  I am a lifelong member of the LDS church.  I am a 23 year veteran law enforcement investigator working homicide at a major Southern California county agency.  I am very stable and have a family.  I have a lot to lose by going off the proverbial rails.  But like Plato’s Allegory of The Cave, once I began to experience enlightenment, I could not go back.

“My mind says I should not be writing this, and yet I do.  But, I somehow know you understand.  Your message makes sense to me.  It resonates as if it is a story, familiar knowledge, that I suddenly remember as I hear the message.

“I don’t want anything.  I just have an overwhelming desire to reach out and I can’t explain why.  I don’t know if I will hear back, and that is okay.  I somehow know that by making contact, I have done what I was supposed to do.”

(End of email to Christopher.)

The very last thing that Joseph Smith had the character Adam say to the audience in his temple endowment play was,

“These are true messengers. I exhort you to give strict heed to their counsel and teachings, and they will lead you in the way of life and salvation.”

But the final scene in the play was when the god, Michael—who perceived himself as Adam while experiencing life upon earth—was awakened from the “deep sleep” under which Elohim and Jehovah had placed him. Michael arose, turned, and looked at Elohim and Jehovah and said,

“Now I understand why Jehovah is the Savior of mankind.”

Michael then looks out into the audience, signals towards Jehovah and says,

“This is the Son of the Eternal God, even Jesus, the Christ, to whom every knee shall bow and every tongue confess. He is the Savior of all mankind. Each of you shall stand before him at the last day to be judged of him. We exhort you to give heed to his words and you will be led in the way of life and salvation.”

This last scene was removed by Brigham Young when the temple endowment play was first presented in the Council House built a few years after the Mormons had relocated to Salt Lake City. The Council House was the first public building and used by Young and the other leaders to set up the temporary government for what the Mormons called, the State of Deseret*, and to lead the Church.

Here is a funny Real Truth side note to naming the territory “Deseret”:

When Oliver Cowdery transcribed the dictation from Joseph Smith for the last story in the Book of Mormon, Ether, he misspelled the word “dessert,” which was the actual word that Joseph Smith had said. Honey has always been a sweet dessert as long as the honeybee has been upon Earth. Created by ancient human entomologists millions of years ago, to serve plants by carrying plant DNA to other similar plants, the inventors made sure the bee served humankind too, with its excrement—honey. The bee has survived ever since, providing a great dessert for humans.

When Joseph Smith reviewed Cowdery’s manuscript before printing, being uneducated and a terrible speller himself, he read the word that Oliver had misspelled and thought it was the correct spelling for “dessert.” It was never changed. Like he did many things, Joseph smiled at the mistake when it was finally pointed out to him. (See BOM,  Jacob 4:14) Joseph left the spelling mistake and it eventually became the first name for the State of Utah. The early Mormons would have left the name of their state as “Deseret,” but the U.S. government had its own ideas about the territory to which the Mormons had fled. The territory was named after the native American people who lived near there first: the Apache name was pronounced yudah.

Because the god character, “Michael,” was awakened during the original last scene, Young and the other leaders could not explain what had happened to “Adam,” “Eve,” and “Lucifer,” who had only appeared while Michael was asleep and dreaming. Both “Adam” and “Eve” were part of the god “Michael.” Although implied, instead of being explicitly taken from the body of Adam as Eve was, Lucifer was also a part of the dreaming Michael’s mortal dream conscious life.

When Michael was awakened and continued as the god he was before being put to sleep, it then followed that Lucifer could no longer exist either. Instead of worrying about what their followers might think about the final scene, it was much easier for Young and his cohorts to simply remove any reference to Michael awakening from the experience the immortal god had had as life upon Earth.

Eventually, the early Mormons built an Endowment House that was solely dedicated to presenting the endowment play and doing other temple ordinances that had evolved into the saving ordinances of the Church. A few years after Young’s death, the Council House was destroyed by fire. It should have been a sign to the LDS/Mormons that they were headed down the wrong path.

The endowment was Joseph Smith’s final masterpiece. It explains the Real Truth about human existence in symbolic terms. Joseph’s entire mission was to get the white-skinned European Americans refocused on the simple message of Jesus, as given in the Sermon on the Mount, and, of course, to open Americans’ minds to the idea that the native American peoples of the Western Hemisphere were just as important as white people.

The message of Jesus is simple: be a good person to yourself and to others. The Sermon on the Mount is a basic outline of law that should have replaced the law of Moses as intended by the authors of the Jesus stories. The Book of Mormon leads the reader to the words of the resurrected Jesus as “the fulness of the everlasting Gospel … as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants [of the American continent].” (Pearl of Great Price, JSH 1:34) There was no other purpose for the Book of Mormon.

Knowing that it was a very high probability that the early American Christians would reject the book’s true purpose, the sealed portion was mentioned as the most important part of the record. The Sealed Portion would clear up the misunderstandings of the unsealed record (i.e., the Book of Mormon).

As we have tried to explain through this Marvelous Work and a Wonder®, the concept of Christ/Jehovah/Savior is our eternal human conscience that knows right from wrong and compels us to be good people. We presented this in as clear Christian-based prose as was possible in the seventh chapter of the book of Moroni in the Book of Mormon.

We wrote of “the Spirit of Christ is given to every man that he may know good from evil.” (BOM, Moroni 7:16) Early Mormon priesthood leaders corrupted this idea by introducing the false interpretation and concept that only through the Holy Ghost could a man know good from evil. Joseph Smith countered their corruption of the Real Truth by introducing the Holy Trinity (Godhead) in the symbolism of his endowment play: Elohim (the Father), Jehovah (the Son), and Michael (the Holy Ghost).

Michael is connected to Elohim and Jehovah because he is an equal god to them both, thus the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one god. It is the Holy Ghost’s (Michael’s) influence on Adam that guides Adam through the “lone and dreary world” of mortal existence.

This feeling, this connection, this “chasing a yearning” that the man who wrote Christopher spoke of in his email, is a cause of this connection to this Godhead—to the individual’s True Self, to one’s eternal nature (Elohim), to one’s sense of moral judgment/one’s moral compass (Jehovah). “Michael” is symbolic of our True Self’s actual experiences of existence/life.

This moral compass of what is right and wrong is obviously the man’s (who wrote Christopher) most constant guide as he deals with the worst of the worst of human experience: homicide investigations. This man has this moral compass, this Liahona of which we wrote in the Book of Mormon. This is the Spirit of Christ given to every person who has, does, and will live[d] upon Earth. This man’s job requires him to constantly look to his personal compass for emotional salvation. If he did not have his own Liahona, he would be emotionally destroyed.

And now,

This man’s Liahona has led him to us, to our Marvelous Work and a Wonder®.

According to the symbolism of Joseph’s endowment play, this man is Michael. This man is Adam. During this life upon Earth, in this “lone and dreary world,” this man uses the words of his mouth to pray for understanding, “looking for messengers.”

“For years I have known that there was something, someone, out there that I needed to wait for.”

When he prayed, Lucifer was there to answer him. Lucifer gave him the religion that he has followed for all of his life, a religion that often didn’t make sense. His job has been hard, more so than any of us could ever imagine. Finally, his Elohim and Jehovah, his True Self and his eternal sense of judgment of right and wrong, has led him to a True Messenger who has the ability to cast out his Lucifer and lead him in the “way of life and salvation.”

The confusion that he has had for many years will begin to clear as he reads our words through Christopher. His faith has turned to hope, has turned to Real Truth, to the opportunity for him to understand the “mysteries of God in full.” (See BOM, Alma 12:9–11.) We have the key to the lock that has held him bound in the “chains of hell” as we have referred to it in this reference from Alma.

He need only start with the “words of Christ,” with the “fulness of the everlasting Gospel as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants.” Let this be his guide, his Liahona*, the compass that directs him, and he will be led to a freedom and understanding that he never thought possible.

One day he will understand the meaning behind the final words that Alma the younger, spoke to his son, Helaman:

And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.  (BOM, Moroni 10:33, 34)

Then will he, too, understand the last part of Joseph’s original endowment play when Michael gives his final words to the audience:

“This is the Son of the Eternal God, even Jesus, the Christ, to whom every knee shall bow and every tongue confess. He is the Savior of all mankind. Each of you shall stand before him at the last day to be judged of him. We exhort you to give heed to his words and you will be led in the way of life and salvation.”

It is our hope that he one day understands the Real Truth of all things; that he is the actual Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; that salvation will come only by having a complete understanding of the “mysteries of God in full”; that “because [he] knowest these things, [he] is saved from the fall.” (See BOM, Ether 3:13.)

Christopher will cast out his Lucifer, as he has for so many others. The Real Truth will make sense to him, complete sense. It will speak to the “Spirit of Christ,” the Spirit of Real Truth that is already in him through his Holy Ghost, through his eternal connection with the Father and the Son. Because he already knows the “sign and token received in the Garden of Eden,” but has forgotten it, Christopher will remind him of what he already knows. Only in this way will he know that Christopher is a True Messenger.

Truly, this is a marvelous work and a wonder!

How the Liahona represents the Spirit of Christ/Holy Ghost (conscience) and guides a person in following their conscience:

The thirty-seventh chapter of Alma:

38 And now, my son, I have somewhat to say concerning the thing which our fathers call a ball, or director—or our fathers called it Liahona, which is, being interpreted, a compass; and the Lord prepared it.

39 And behold, there cannot any man work after the manner of so curious a workmanship. And behold, it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness.

40 And it did work for them according to their faith in God; therefore, if they had faith to believe that God could cause that those spindles should point the way they should go, behold, it was done; therefore they had this miracle, and also many other miracles wrought by the power of God, day by day.

41 Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey;

42 Therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst, because of their transgressions.

43 And now, my son, I would that ye should understand that these things are not without a shadow; for as our fathers were slothful to give heed to this compass (now these things were temporal) they did not prosper; even so it is with things which are spiritual.

44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.

45 And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.

46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.

47 And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live. Go unto this people and declare the word, and be sober. My son, farewell.
