There are various definitions for religious belief. To study the way that the world defines religion, we recommend a brief study of what the world has accepted as a general authority on this definition: Definition of religion.
These arguments and discussions conclude that religion is generally a concept developed by what is classified as the “Western civilization,” where this classification denotes a specific culture of humans, generally white-skinned and seen as more advanced and civilized than other cultures (European). Western civilization is also closely associated with a foundation established in ancient Greece.
As it pertains to our work during this Sixth Dispensation of Human Time—where human groups developed into cultures and established widely visible civilizations, i.e., the stage of mortal human growth and development considered most advanced—modern religion was foundationalized in ancient Europe, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece. These ancient religious practices, performances, and outlines spread throughout the Roman Empire and became the basis of most modern-day religions.
Through an in-depth study of ancient Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman mythology one will find the constructs and familiar structure of all major modern religions. Further, an in-depth study would reveal that many of the mythological characters, along with the stories associated with these characters, are very similar to the principle characters of the religions that were spawn from ancient Western traditions and beliefs.
Long before the story of Moses developed, the Sumerian legend of Sargon of Akkad told the tale of a Sumerian hero being threatened as an infant, placed in a bulrush basket, set afloat on the river Euphrates, discovered by the servant of the king of the Sumerian city, Kish, and raised as a king. Sargon would come to recognize himself as one of the common people. Sargon became a great hero among the common people in Sumerian legend.
The empirical evidence of the existence of Sargon is actual and much more convincing than the evidence found on the existence of the Hebrew hero, Moses. The legend of Sargon was recorded on clay tablets called cuneiform (c. 3500-3000 BCE). The only record of Moses is from the Greek story written on parchment as the Pentateuch.
Pentateuch is a Greek term that means “five scrolls” (c. 700-600 BCE). Pentateuch is the name that the Greek authors, who wrote the Moses story, gave to the first chapters of their story: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy (all original words from Greek).
As his name is mentioned in association with anthropological and religious studies, here we thought it wise to introduce one of the men with whom we once associated, and whose thinking and understanding we were able to help influence: Clifford Geertz.
We met Mr. Geertz and his wife while they were living in Java, Indonesia doing research with a team of other scientists. We were in Indonesia at this time working with some students attending Gadjah Mada University. Our intent for being in Indonesia at this time was to ascertain if the new democratic government developing in Indonesia would allow our introduction of some of the political concepts of The Humanity Party®.
We were happy to find Mr. Geertz’ profound definition of religion among the others mentioned above. This definition more definitively defines the Real Truth about religion upon which we are basing this particular treatise:
“A system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods and motivations in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.”
Religion has always been used to control people, sometimes for good, more often for evil.
During mortality, at least after the First Dispensation of Human Time, human moods and motivations develop because of the Real Truth that we are advanced humans having a mortal experience.
We cannot remember our existence as these “gods.”
Our eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and hands perceive the reality of life upon Earth, but it doesn’t feel right. We often feel lost in a lone and dreary world, not truly understanding who we are or why we exist upon the earth.
Our “soul” is continually yearning for understanding and purpose. This yearning creates the moods and motivations that form the concepts about existence “with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.”
We reach out to the unknown for an answer, or at least, to someone to tell us what our existence and purpose is all about.
Oh God, hear the words of my mouth. Oh God, hear the words of my mouth. Oh God, hear the words of my mouth. Please teach me why I exist and what purpose I have on Earth or send me someone to help me understand.
Our egos answer our sincere inquiries.
I hear you. What is it you want?
As our ego creates these thoughts and voices in our head, the majority of us are reasonable and honest with ourselves. We do not recognize these voices, nor can we comprehend what our ego is trying to tell us.
Who are you?
I am the god of this world.
You, the god of this world.
Yes. What do you want?
Not convinced that our ego has the power to give us the answers to our questions, the majority of us fight our ego and the voices and thoughts it creates in our minds. Instead of accepting what materializes in our thoughts, because we cannot make heads or tails of the answers, we default to our integrity, humility, and acknowledgement of ignorance, hoping someone else can give us the answers.
I am looking for messengers.
But there is a minority among us that sees our ignorance and humility as a weakness. Sensing an opportunity to gain value and worth over and above the majority, their egos react differently to the questions than our own ego does. They sense our moods and motivation and act on our overwhelming yearning to know.
Oh, you want someone to teach you.
For personal gain, they act upon our moods and motivations and form concepts about our existence “with an aura of factuality.”
You want religion, do you?
In actuality, we don’t know what it is we are searching for. If we knew, we wouldn’t be searching. Seizing the opportunity, these egomaniacs prepare and present their concepts.
I understand you are inquiring after religion.
We were calling upon the feeling inside of our hearts, upon the yearning that tells us that this existence on Earth cannot be all there is to our purpose and life.
I was calling upon Father.
There it is. A way into our hearts (our moods and motivation). We trust them because they seem to recognize our sincerity in finding the answers.
I am glad to know that you were calling upon Father.
Then they hit us with a “system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods and motivations … by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.”
Do you believe in a God who is without body, parts, and passions; who sits on the top of a topless throne; who His center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere; who fills the universe, and yet is so small that He can dwell in your heart; who is surrounded by myriads of beings who have been saved by grace, not for any act of theirs, but by His good pleasure?
Waiting for a response, they inquire to find out if we are believing their “aura of factuality.”
Do you believe in this great Being?
But these things do not make sense to us. They do not answer all of our questions.
I do not. I cannot comprehend such a being.
Playing on our mood, they explain:
That is the beauty of it.
When we persist in our confusion and resistance to their “aura of factuality,” they lay on the guilt and affix a punishment to our resistence.
Perhaps you do not believe in the devil, and in that great hell, the bottomless pit, where there is a lake of fire and brimstone into which the wicked are cast, and where they are continually burning but are never consumed?
When we still resist them and give no value to their answers, they show their compassion and concern in a passive/aggressive manner.
My dear friend, I am sorry for you.
All the religions of this world have been established in this hypothetical manner.
Once people believe in what they are taught, and accept the answers, once the concepts are clothed with “an aura of factuality,” a mortal’s moods and motivations can be controlled by the egos of religious leaders.
Where is the God to which these egomaniacs claim allegiance and special attention?
Is not the god of these religions simply the ego of the religious leaders?
Do not these leaders define who God is and what God commands of a person’s moods and motivations?
Greek mythology is ripe with heroes that commune with the gods and receive special attention and power so that they can help mere mortals.
As easily as the ancient Greeks believed in their gods and heroes, the ancient Hebrews believed in theirs.
Nothing stood in the way of the developing Hebrew culture and a new religion. This new religion catered to the poor, to the outcasts, to the marginalized (those treated as insignificant to the great Greek and Roman people). This new religion developed among the majority. Its leaders took advantage and gained great power over the people and great riches from them.
Something, someone had to intercede. Someone who knew the Real God, who actually knew, and instead of presenting an “aura of factuality, ” gave the people the Real Truth. A hero was needed.
The task fell upon us.
We created the needed heroes.
We created the biblical prophets to counter the devastating religion that the Hebrew story about God’s “chosen people” perpetuated.
Something had to be done.
Somehow, in some way, the idea that there exists a divisive god that determines one’s worth based on a “system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods and motivations … by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic” had to be confronted.
We created Isaiah first.
In its original form, Isaiah was our masterpiece.
At different times, we addressed different problems with other invented heroes (prophets) that were invented because of what we knew was threatening our shared humanity: religion.
From Jeremiah to Malachi, each prophet had a new message to present. Yet, all centered around the same basic principles of Real Truth: religion and its leaders were all corrupt; and one should not listen to the concepts of men, but depend upon God for one’s answers.
We tried to inspire the people to leave religion and leaders.
“Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
We did what we had to in order to influence people to stop listening to religious leaders and start listening to that “still small voice” inside of them; to listen to their mutual humanity.
“Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:16-18)
Our attempts failed.
As the people rejected their established religious leaders, others would seize the opportunity and create their own. Yet another religion that set one person above all others as a leader, as a messenger, as a conduit for God’s will to mortal kind. And of course, in the process, the new prophet gained power and wealth over and from the people.
The Real Truth is that there is no god or person above an individual. Each is a god. Each is their own hero. A True Messenger is the hero that would teach this principle and eternal concept.
We would take up our pen at a different time period and attempt to introduce these things again, but in a different way, to a different people.
In our new attempt, we used much of what we had written for Isaiah.
We introduced many clues based on the “aura of factuality” in which the Western world believed. In these clues we introduced the idea of a restoration, not a restoration of “fallen man,” but a restoration of the soul to its perfect state before the fall of mankind.
Understanding the “moods and motivations” that control our humanity, we utilized the hero that had been invented but abused and misused inappropriately throughout the ages of the religions that were formed from the Hebrew Bible: Jesus Christ.
We introduced the Spirit of Humanity as the Spirit of Christ. It is a spirit, a “mood and motivation” that all mortals share in common. It is the mood and motivation that propels each of us to choose to do good rather than evil.
Whereas we are all equal gods (Elohim), we act together under the Spirit of our mutual Humanity (Jehovah), which laws are fixed within our souls, and which any violation of these humanity laws brings upon us a remorse of conscience.
It is in each of our desires for new life experiences in order to augment our eternal soul that we find ourselves faced with choices of action: eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge or not.
It is the god-part of our human nature (Michael) that propels us to increase our knowledge as equal gods, but under the just guidance of the Spirit of Humanity that tells us what is good for all of us equally and what is not.
And as gods, how can we have these new experiences unless a new earth is created, like unto the ones we have heretofore formed?
And how can we have these new experiences if we are aware of who we are as gods, and with this knowledge have no way to decompress from the reality of our own eternal existence?
Our own Godhead must act as one, in unison, and for the same end. Michael must be put into a state of sleep by Elohim and Jehovah so that these new experiences can create the mood and motivation for our existence. Once in a dream state of existence, the Michael part of our eternal soul can act and be acted upon. We can become male (Adam) or female (Eve), but only after we have chosen to do that which was forbidden in our real, eternal world.
But if we exist as a god, and we have fallen from this original state of being, is it not a restoration that takes place to restore us to our original state? Is it not this original state that generates the “still small voice” inside of us?
Therefore, if we are all equal gods and each of us exists in our real world as these equal gods, who then among us (who among those with breath in our mortal nostrils) has any right or authority to tell any of us who God is and what God requires of us, an individual equal to God?
We invented the biblical prophets and wrote their stories in “beauty,”* so that these stories and their teachings might penetrate the religious filters established in the minds and hearts of the people of Earth. But the people could not interpret the things that we wrote or understand the symbolism we used in presenting the Real Truth.
You cannot comprehend such things. And that is the beauty of it.
We wrote the book of Revelation with the same “beauty” and in a prose that would not be rejected by religious leaders, who did not understand Revelation’s symbolism nor its “beauty.”
But in our last attempt at writing religious prose, we promised to send you a True Messenger who would unfold these things to your understanding and teach you the Real Truth about all things that have been hidden since the foundation of this world.
We pleaded with all the people of the world, non-religious (Gentiles) and religious (house of Israel) to come unto our work, the work of the true Father and of the true Christ, and we will show you the greater things, the knowledge which is hid up because of unbelief, or rather because of belief that has been clothed in a “system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods and motivations … by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence … with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.”
Nothing about religion is real. But because you believe that it is, and that there are parts of religion that are good, we made our plea:
BOM, Ether, chapter 4:
13 Come unto me, O ye Gentiles, and I will show unto you the greater things, the knowledge which is hid up because of unbelief.
14 Come unto me, O ye house of Israel, and it shall be made manifest unto you how great things the Father hath laid up for you, from the foundation of the world; and it hath not come unto you, because of unbelief.
15 Behold, when ye shall rend that veil of unbelief which doth cause you to remain in your awful state of wickedness, and hardness of heart, and blindness of mind, then shall the great and marvelous things which have been hid up from the foundation of the world from you—yea, when ye shall call upon the Father in my name, with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, then shall ye know that the Father hath remembered the covenant which he made unto your fathers, O house of Israel.
16 And then shall my revelations which I have caused to be written by my servant John be unfolded in the eyes of all the people. Remember, when ye see these things, ye shall know that the time is at hand that they shall be made manifest in very deed.
17 Therefore, when ye shall receive this record ye may know that the work of the Father has commenced upon all the face of the land.
Remember, when ye see these things, ye shall know that we have kept our promise and given unto you the “one” who is not the “Son of man,” as you have been taught, but is the “one like unto the Son of man,” through whom we will “show unto you the greater things, the knowledge which is hid up because of unbelief.”
Read the works of this Marvelous Work and a Wonder®. Contemplate their significance and and consider their purpose and intent. Seek wisdom at the hand of our chosen True Messenger. He will never take advantage of his role of service for you as all other religious leaders have done, do, and will do. He will not gain from being your True Messenger. The world will hate him for the sake of Real Truth.
And now, if we may write a final statement for this treatise, we would exhort you to give strict heed to his counsel and teachings, and he will lead you in the way of life and salvation.
If not, you cannot be restored to your original state, and the Second Death will be the affixed eternal decree. This Second Death is that none of OUR GROUP will ever again be able to put their True Self asleep and partake of the Tree of Life.
We have tried everything within our power to influence the minds and hearts of mortals to reject religion and seek the true God responsible for all that is good, and recognize the true god of this world responsible for all that is evil.
Up until this crucial time, in order to give OUR GROUP the time to repent and make the necessary changes—a probationary period—our True Selves (Elohim) under the direction of the eternal justice of law that oversees our humanity (Jehovah), have not allowed us to know the Real Truth (partake of the Tree of Life).
ELOHIM: Jehovah, let cherubim and a flaming sword be placed to guard the way of the Tree of Life, lest Adam and Eve put forth their hands, and partake of the fruit thereof, and live forever in their sins.
JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim.
As a last resort, because nothing else has worked, Elohim and Jehovah are removing “cherubim and a flaming sword” from the Tree of Life so that Adam and Eve can put forth their hands and partake of the fruit thereof, so that perhaps, mortals can recognize their sins, repent of their sins, and live forever.
Again, let us reiterate the purpose and intent of our work:
For the time cometh, saith Elohim and Jehovah, that as one, we will work a great and a marvelous work among the children of men by removing cherubim and a flaming sword from the Tree of Life so that they might see their sins and repent; a work which shall be everlasting, either on the one hand or on the other—either to the convincing of them unto peace and life eternal, or unto the deliverance of them to the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds unto their being brought down into captivity, and also into destruction, both temporally and spiritually, according to the captivity of the devil, of which our True Messenger has spoken. (Compare BOM, 1 Nephi 14:7.)
The above was for those with “eyes that see and ears that ear.”
For the rest of the world,
The justice served by the sharp two-edged sword of Real Truth will suffice.
